Saint Charles Riverfront Arts (SCRA) announces that the not-for-profit organization will be hosting a free “Young Artists Workshop” program series for St. Charles middle and high school students, in conjunction with their upcoming 2012 Spring ArtWalk event at the end of April 2012.
The inaugural “Young Artists Workshop” series will be held from 6:30 until 8:30 pm weekly on Tuesday evenings at The Grand Opera House, located at 311 North Main Street in Historic St. Charles, Missouri, beginning Tuesday, March 20 and running through Tuesday, April 24, 2012.
The “Young Artists Workshop” series is open to all middle and high school-aged students who currently reside in the City of St. Charles, Missouri. Lindenwood University art education students and alumni will conduct the “Young Artists Workshop” program, guiding participants in drawing, painting, or sculpting through small groups based on interest, age, and ability levels. The “Young Artists Workshop” series will also feature occasional technique demonstrations by professional “working” artists.
At the end of the “Young Artists Workshop” series, each of the student participants will have the opportunity to select 2-3 pieces completed during the workshop sessions, which will be displayed in a special gallery setting during this year’s Spring ArtWalk event, April 27 through 29, 2012.
According to Joseph Alsobrook, Dean of the School of Fine and Performing Arts at Lindenwood University, “This is a win-win opportunity. Local middle and high school students get to apply and refine their artistic abilities, while Lindenwood art education students or graduates get to apply and refine their instructional abilities.”
The annual Spring ArtWalk event – started in 2006 by Saint Charles Riverfront Arts – is the primary venue to support the organization’s mission of growing a dynamic Art District in and around Main Street, in historic St. Charles, Missouri. Spring ArtWalk has always been an “artist friendly” event – there are no entry fees and no commission on the artists’ sales and the art is exhibited indoors.
According to Lou Cariffe, Board President for the Saint Charles Riverfront Arts organization, “We are excited about expanding our community arts programs. By offering an educational opportunity – with the support of Lindenwood University – for our young citizens, we feel as though we are making a giant step towards fulfilling our mission and assuring the long life of our organization.
This special six-week arts education program is free to the public, but the workshop is limited to the first 40 students. Registration is first come, first served to public, private and home-school students. To register for the “Young Artists Workshop” series, please fill out and submit the form found below on this page.
The “Young Artists Workshop” series is made possible by a generous grant from the Arts & Culture Commission for the City of St. Charles, Missouri.
