ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Noted Harley-Davidson Motorcycle artist Scott Jacobs will headline the Second Annual “Art of the Motorcycle” Gala on Saturday evening, August 22, 2009 at the Foundry Art Centre, located at 520 North Main Street in St. Charles, Missouri. Jacobs was the first Harley-Davidson artist licensed worldwide, and his works of art will be displayed in the Main Gallery. Local metal sculptor Joseph Farmer and line artist Wendy Stansbery Waltert will also have their works displayed.

This unique event – which documents and celebrates the evolution of the motorcycle from little more than a powered bicycle, to the distinctive form of transportation and statement of personal style that it is today – has been strategically scheduled during the popular St. Charles Festival of the Little Hills weekend.  Proceeds from the event will benefit St. Charles Riverfront Arts’ efforts to promote visual and performing arts throughout the St. Charles community.

The “Art of Motorcycle” Gala Co-Chairman Dan Borgmeyer notes, “Our guests will have the exclusive opportunity to meet renowned Harley Davidson artist Scott Jacobs, which will be a huge draw for this year’s event.” Borgmeyer continues, “Scott Jacobs’ artwork is displayed in more than 80 countries, and his work hangs in the permanent collections of many prestigious American art museums.” Those art and automotive museums include the St. Louis Art Museum; The Peterson Automotive Museum located in Beverly Hills, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in California; the Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art located in Marietta, Georgia just outside of Atlanta; and the Milwaukee Art Museum.”

The “Art of the Motorcycle” Gala begins at 7 p.m. and features an exhibition of both vintage and modern bikes, many from the Mungenast Family and Moto Museum collections. Local radio personality and motorcycle aficionado Bo Matthews of WIL 92.3 will make an appearance at the event.  Motorcycle experts will discuss historical cycle information, and guests will have a hands-on contact opportunity with racers, choppers and bikes of all makes and models.

Tickets are $50 per person in advance and $55 at the door. Attendees will enjoy a selection of food, wine and beer donated by local restaurants. There will also be ride opportunities during the event, as well as many motorcycle-themed boutique/specialty and accessory items available for purchase. Guests can also purchase a commemorative T-shirt or poster from the event. Partygoers should plan on wearing “slightly upscale and festive” motorcycle attire.

Borgmeyer adds, “More than 300 enthusiasts attended the Gala last year, and we expect an even larger turn out this year. This will be a very special night for our Gala guests, whether they’re die-hard motorcycle or fine art enthusiasts, or simply people who just want to have a good time and support the arts in St. Charles.”
